Forgotten Treasure!

I buy A LOT of things so when I forget about something I have bought its no surprise. Today when I was cleaning out my storage room I found this antique linen hand towel. Its a really large size at almost 3 feet long and over 12 inches wide. I love the embroidery and little cotton loops to hang it up. It was only $3 dollars so I would say it was a GREAT buy too! One day when our kitchen has been remodeled I will be able to display it... one day.

Auction treasure..

Can you believe I only paid $35 dollars for this pair of vintage French chairs!

Sorry about the no so great picture, I took it after I got home on Thursday.. it was almost dark out and I was tired. They were the only thing I had my eye on and I'm so glad I was able to scoop them up. The upholstery isn't bad but its kind of dirty and the frames are a little too gold for my taste so I'll probably end up painting them. I can't wait to transform these beauties!

I hope you had a lovely weekend!

Antique French Tapestry...

About a year ago I found this antique French tapestry. It was the perfect size for a large pillow but I wasn't sure what type of fabric I wanted for the back. After I finished the brown velvet chairs I had just enough fabric for the project and LOVED the dark velvet with the light almost "tea stained" colors of the tapestry. I'm not sure if I'm gong to be able to let it go... I love it so much!

I found the antique caned bench last week at one of my favorite flea markets for only $10! I think it's going to sit under the sink in the half bath once it's finished and decorated... You can see some of the products we've used in the bathroom remodel here.

Have a lovely Monday!

Another pair of Cane Back Chairs: before and after

I picked up another pair of cane back chairs last week. This set is VERY similar to the last set that I had sold. Here is the before... I found one arm chair, and one without arms..

I knew what I wanted to do with the paint finish. And thought I knew what fabric I wanted but I ended up changing my mind once I got to the fabric store! I had a dark grey linen in mind for the upholstery but found a chestnut brown velvet fabric on clearance with a extra 25% off coupon! Score! I love a good velvet fabric and when its on such a deep discount I couldn't pass it up.

I used a buttermilk color milk paint for the base coat. White washed over the base coat, and finished with clear and dark waxes.

I sanded and distressed the frames.

I was worried the dark velvet would be too much so I chose to use an ivory burlap for the chair backs. I'm not a huge fan of using burlap for upholstery because it sheds, usually smells, and is scratchy. But since the backs of the chairs wont get used I thought it was a good way to go. And I LOVE the way it turned out and breaks up the dark velvet.

I'm loving the creamy colored chair frames and rich upholstery. I think they would look so pretty in a breakfast nook...

New Area Rug...

It takes me forever to make decorating decisions. So when I finally chose a area rug it was such a relief! I wanted a natural fiber rug for it's durability, neutral color, and ease to hide stains. Yesterday I finally had time to lay the rug down, and I'm in LOVE! It looks beautiful with the dark wood work and updates the hundred year old features in the living room.

I love the nubby texture and the beautiful quality. I now have the itch to get the living room finished. Hopefully this week I can start sewing the curtains, couch slipcover, and narrow down fabric choices to finish upholstering the chaise lounge I've been avoiding for 8 months... Decorating is definitely a layering process for me and I'm kind of glad I've taken the time to get a feel for the "new house" and let it speak to me. I'm excite to turn this old house into a home!

I hope you had a great weekend. I'll have some pretty before and afters this week!

Happy Friday!

This is a peek of what I'll be doing this weekend. The projects involve velvet, canvas, and button tufting! I'll most likely be snapping some Instagram pictures along the way so please follow my feed if you would like to see! My Instagram tab is on the right side of the blog.

Also I want to thank everyone for leaving AMAZING comments and following the blog! It really means so much to me! I'm going to try to work on a tutorial about making a tufted ottoman if I can figure out video editing(wish me luck!).

I hope you have a lovely weekend!
